Series III 88 Crash Damage Repair
This Series III 88 has come to us with some crash damage to repair. The
RHD 88 soft top is in need of a new fender and fender skin. The first step
is to remove the damaged parts and get a clear view of the damage, to determine
if anything other than what is easy to see was damaged. Luckily, in this
case, it was just sheet metal and no frame or mechanical damage occurred.
Once we remove the damaged pieces we evaluate if they can be repaired or
should be replaced. In this case, the panels needed to be replaced. Repairing
them would have cost more, and would have yielded a poor quality repair.
The new panels are sources from our fully stocked parts dept. (no waiting
here at ECR, we have almost everything for Series and Defenders in stock
for our in house uses) and the parts are then given to our in house paint
shop for painting. Once prep'd the panels are treated to 3 coats of PPG
epoxy primer and then 2 coats of PPG Concept Bronze Green paint. The image
above shows the panels hanging in our spray/bake booth after the final shot
of color. Once baked in our 1,000,000 BTU cross draft spray booth, these
panels will be ready to assemble onto the 88.
Once the panels are fitted to the 88, the new lights and wiring are installed.
The crash took out the headlight as well as both the side light and the
turn signal, so all those items were replaced with the same style units
to make the Rover look correct. This 88 had some pretty nasty wiring in
the front, so we took care of those problems as well, and got the wiring
back to stock and into exc. working order. The repair is then double checked,
cleaned and now the 88 is ready to get back on the road. If your Rover needs
just a little work, or a full restoration ECR is here to help you. We'll
do as much or as little as you wish, and we can tackle any job from a fully
outfitted Defender 110 to a simple crash repair... like this Series III.
